Short answer: choose by stage and format. Limina describes long, full-length practice sessions and modality-specific skill drills, and it names licensed clinicians as its main audience while also offering a student plan. SeatTime is built around short typed conversations (most take five to ten minutes) with fictional clients, at a lower monthly price. We haven't used Limina, so this page compares what each company publishes, not how the tools feel in practice.

The comparison at a glance

Limina facts come from its own home page (seen October 24, 2026). SeatTime facts come from our pricing and how-it-works pages.

When Limina may fit better

  • You want longer sessions. A 30 to 50 minute full session is a different rep from a ten-minute one.
  • You want to drill one skill repeatedly. It lists a mode built for that.
  • You work within one of its listed orientations. CBT, motivational interviewing, person-centered and psychodynamic are named on its page.
  • You are already licensed or close to it. Its page is addressed to licensed clinicians first.

When SeatTime may fit

  • You want a lower monthly price. The individual plan is $15/month, and you don't need a .edu email.
  • You want a short rep between classes. Conversations are built to fit a free ten minutes.
  • You want to try it before making an account. The first practice conversation needs no account or card.
  • You are an MFT trainee. The library includes fictional couples and families. See the MFT trainee page for what is there. The couple and family scenarios are part of the paid library; the free conversation is a general counseling one.

What this page doesn't tell you

We haven't run the same practice in both tools, so this page doesn't compare how realistic the clients feel, the quality of the feedback, or reliability. Limina's page makes claims about its approach that we have not checked and do not repeat. SeatTime's feedback is generated by AI and can be wrong, so bring your questions to faculty or a supervisor.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeatTime cheaper than Limina?

At the prices listed on October 24, 2026, yes. Limina lists a Student plan at $24/month with a .edu email, and an Individual plan at $39/month, or $349/year billed annually. SeatTime is $15/month with no student-status check. Plans, discounts and billing terms can change, so read each pricing page before you pay.

Does either tool replace the practice my program assigns?

SeatTime doesn't. It's optional practice outside your program and doesn't count toward any program, placement or licensing requirement. For Limina, read its own terms, and ask your program what it accepts before you rely on any tool for coursework.

Do I need to pick one?

No. Compare the published plans and practice modes. SeatTime has a free text conversation; we have not verified a free Limina trial or its input format. Check its current terms before paying.
