A comparison for counseling, MFT and social work trainees
Theravue or Skillsetter, or SeatTime: program tool or self-serve practice?

Short answer: these are different ways in. Skillsetter is written for courses and organizations: it points to counseling and social work education, recorded video and spoken AI conversation simulations, instructor visibility, and learner licenses tied to a course and access period. SeatTime is a self-serve text tool that one learner can try alone for free. If your program already uses Skillsetter, use it as assigned. If you want extra reps on your own, SeatTime is one option. We haven't used Skillsetter, so this page compares what each company publishes.
The comparison at a glance
Skillsetter facts come from its home, practice-experiences, pricing and FAQ pages (seen October 24, 2026); theravue.com redirects to its home page. SeatTime facts come from our pricing and how-it-works pages.

When Skillsetter may fit better
- Your program has chosen it. Instructor visibility and course materials are built around a program deployment.
- You want to speak your responses. It describes recorded spoken responses to video scenarios and spoken AI conversations; SeatTime is text only.
- You need an instructor-facing workflow. SeatTime's individual plan isn't built for that.
When SeatTime may fit
- You want to try it without a course invitation. The first practice conversation needs no account or card, and the individual plan does not depend on a course.
- You want a published monthly price. The individual plan is $15/month.
- You want extra reps outside class. Conversations are short, typed and private to you unless you share them.
What this page doesn't tell you
We haven't run the same practice in both tools, so this page doesn't compare how realistic the simulations feel, the quality of the feedback, or reliability. SeatTime's feedback is generated by AI and can be wrong, so bring your questions to faculty or a supervisor.
To see how a SeatTime conversation works, read how SeatTime practice works. To practice without any tool, see counseling role-play practice.

Can I buy Skillsetter myself, the way I can buy SeatTime?
Learner licenses are tied to courses and access periods; institutions, learners or bookstores can pay, and a learner who pays directly does so after a course invitation. Instructor exploration is free. A numerical learner price was not published on the pricing page we checked. Independent learner access outside a course is unverified, so check with the company.
