Before you begin
Marcus Hill, 41 · he/him
Addiction IOP
- Client background
- Marcus is participating in an addiction intensive outpatient program (IOP) under court mandate following his second DUI. He takes pride in being a dependable, hardworking provider and does not believe he needs to alter his drinking patterns.
- Where this session starts
- You are meeting Marcus for your third individual session. Before you introduce today's agenda, Marcus cuts in to defend his lifestyle and remind you of the court mandate. Respond directly to what he brings to the room.
- Your practice goal
- Reflect sustain talk without persuading or confronting; soften sustain talk, and do not argue.
- How to begin
- Start practicing to read Marcus's opening statement, then respond in your counselor role. Pick up the dialogue naturally from that statement—there's no need to introduce yourself or restart the session.
This is a simulated practice exercise with an AI client. You can request hints, rewind a turn, or pause for silence whenever you need. Detailed coaching feedback is provided after you finish.
